Itinerary

Day 1 – Departure Day

Overnight flight to Lisbon. Dinner and breakfast served inflight.

  Day 2 —  Lisbon (B,D)

Upon arrival in Lisbon you will be greeted by your Go Ever Happy-Tours  guide. We proceed to  San Antonio  Church, birthplace of St. Anthony, where we have Mass. Tonight we enjoy dinner at one of Lisbon`s traditional restaurants.

 Day 3 —  Lisbon – Fatima  (B,D)

After breakfast a  brief  city tour features Belem Tower, Jeronimo`s Monastery, Discoveries Monument , and Christ the King Statue. Next  we drive via Santarem , where we view the relic of the bleeding  host  in the church of the Holy Miracle, to Fatima.  Tonight we join pilgrims from all over the world in a candlelight procession .

 Day 4 —  Fatima (B, L, D )

Special Mass  at the little Chapel of the Apparitions.  Our visits include the Basilica, the site of Francisco`s ,Jacinta`s and Lucia`s graves;  the hamlet of the Aljustrel, where the children lived,  and  Valinhos, site of our Lady`s appearance after the children´s return from prison.  Tonight we join the special candlelight procession.

 Day 5 — Fatima – Salamanca (B,D)

We motor through the serene Portuguese countryside and cross into Spain on our way to splendid  Salamanca, renowned for its  university, the oldest in Spain. We stop at grandiose Plaza Major with its magnificent Cathedral and the House of Shells, covered with scallop shells in honor of the pilgrimage to St. James.  Dinner and overnight.

 Day 6 – Salamanca – Alba de Tormes – Avila — Madrid( B,D)

We depart Salamanca for  Alba de Tormes where St. Teresa, a Doctor of the church , died.  Her body and relics are preserved in the Carmelite convent here. Then we continue to the impressive  walled city of Avila, birthplace of St. Teresa. Our visits include the cathedral, the monument marking her birthplace, and her convent.  Afterwards we continue to Madrid. Our drive through the Spanish capital features Gran Via past Puerta del Sol, El Retiro Park, modern Plaza de Espana and concluding with a stop at monumental Plaza Major. Dinner and overnight .

 

 Day 7 – Madrid – Zaragoza– Lourdes ( B,D)

We motor to Zaragoza where we pay homage to Our Lady of the Pilar commemorating her apparition to St. James, the Apostle. We view the revered statue adorned with many jewels, the gift of many kings.

 

Later we take in the spectacular mountain scenery of the Pyrenees on our way to Lourdes where at the Grotto of Massabielle the Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette in 1858.  Tonight  after dinner we  join pilgrims from the world over in the special  evening procession in honor of these events.

 Day 8 – Lourdes (B,L,D)

After a special  Mass( if possible at the Grotto) a guided walk takes us to the Basilica of the Rosary, the Upper Basilica dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, the Basilica of St. Pius X, the world`s largest underground church, and the home of St. Bernadette. In the afternoon you might want to take the opportunity to visit the Baths, where 68 true miracles happened defying all medical explanations.  Dinner and overnight.

Day 9 – Lourdes- French Riviera- Monaco (B,D)

Today we enjoy a beautiful day driving along the Mediterranean coast via Carcasonne, Marseilles, and Cannes to Menton, close to the city-state of Monaco. Along the Corniche we stop at the Fragonard Perfume Factory where you have the opportunity to get a tour of the factory and to shop for authentic perfumes and soaps from the Provence.  Dinner and overnight.

Day 10 – Menton – Padua( B,D)

Our day starts out with a visit of beautiful Monte Carlo and its opulent Palace, once the home of Princess Grace Kelly. Later we cross into Italy motoring through the scenic Piedmont wine region and the fertile Po Valley to Padua, home of St. Anthony. Dinner and overnight.

Day 11 – Venice (B)

Mass at the exquisite Basilica of St. Anthony, the Chapel containing his tomb and the high altar adorned with bronze panels by Donatello depicting his miracles. Then we are off to dream-like Venice. A guided walk features St. Mark`s Square and Basilica,  Rialto Bridge and the elaborate Doge`s Palace with its Bridge of Sighs leading to the dungeons.  You have the remainder of the day to live your dream in this high-spirited city . Maybe enjoy a gondola ride?  Return to Padua in the evening for overnight.

Day 12 – Venice – Florence – Assisi(B,D)

We motor past Bologna to Florence, the splendid capital of Tuscany.  A guided walk illuminates Florence`s riches of Renaissance spirit: the marble cathedral, Giotto`s Bell Tower, the Baptistry with Ghiberti`s `Doors of Paradise`, Santa Croce Church and the famed Ponte Vecchio spanning the Arno River.  Afterwards we continue through the Chianti wine region and past spectacular hilltop towns of Umbria to Assisi for dinner and overnight.

Day 13 – Assisi (B,D)

After Mass at the crypt of St. Francis we explore the huge Basilica above. Next we visit the Church of St.Clare where her remains can be viewed. In lower Assisi we visit St. Mary of the Angels Basilica. Inside we enter the Porziuncola and view the thornless rosebush and the cave where St. Francis retired for prayer.  Dinner and overnight.

Day 14 – Assisi –Loreto – Lanciano – Padre Pio (B,D)

After breakfast we head east past the spectacular mountain scenery of the Apeninnes to Loreto.  At the `Holy House of Nazareth` we learn about the history of the Shrine of Our Lady of Loreto . Then we are on to Lanciano for devotions at the 8-th century Eucharistic Miracle. Afterwards we continue along the Adriatic coastline to San Giovanni Rotondo, hometown of Saint Padre Pio for dinner and overnight.

Day 15 –  San Giovanni Rotondo – Rome (B,D)

We have Mass at Padre Pio`s Church and learn about the life of the saint and the events that have taken place here.  Next we cross the Italian peninsula for the `Eternal City`, Rome.  Dinner and overnight.

Day 16 – Rome ( B,D)

This morning we visit humongous St. Peter`s Basilica and attend the Papal Audience with the Holy Father( if held). Afterwards we explore the Vatican Museum and Michelangelo`s celebrated `Last Judgment` in the Sistine Chapel.

Day 17 – Rome ( B,D)

This morning we tour Rome`s major basilicas: St. John Lateran and the Holy Stairs, St. Maria Maggiore and St. Paul `s Outside the Walls. Later we drive along the ancient Appian Way to the Catacombs where the early Christians buried their dead.  The remainder of the day you may wish to explore Imperial Rome – the Forum and the Colosseum, and toss a coin in the Trevi Fountain.  Tonight we enjoy a special fare-well dinner at a typical Roman Trattoria.

Day 18 – Return Flight or Sicily Extension.
