Day 1 –DEPARTURE DAY
Trans-Atlantic flight to Frankfurt. Dinner and breakfast served inflight.
Day 2 – RUEDESHEIM (D)
Upon arrival in Frankfurt, Germany, we are met by our European tour director and transferred to Ruedesheim. The remainder of the day is at your disposal to take in the atmosphere of centuries past and walk cobble-stoned Drosselgasse. Tonight we get acquainted with our fellow travelers over dinner.
Day 3 – RUEDESHEIM(ST. HILDEGARD,RHINE RIVER CRUISE,LORELEI)(B,D)
We cross the Rhine to Bingen and ascend to the Abbey of St. Hildegard. After Mass and a visit we board a Rhine River Boat for a down-river cruise past fairy –tale towns, castles, and terraced vinyards. Later our coach climbs up to the top of the legendary Rock of the Lorelei. Dinner and overnight.
Day 4 – HEIDELBERG – BLACK FOREST – EINSIEDELN(B,D)
After breakfast we head south and soon reach Heidelberg on the banks of the Neckar river. We stop at the red-walled castle overlooking Germany´s oldest university town. Later we journey along the pine-covered hills of the Black Forest to Einsiedeln, Switzerland. Dinner and overnight.
Day 5 – EINSIEDELN – LUCERNE (B,D)
We start the day with a visit to the huge Benedictine monastery of Einsiedeln. It was founded in 946 by St. Meinrad and is the home of the Black Madonna. The venerated statue has been saved from destruction through many fires and pillagings. We follow the shores of Lake Lucerne to explore the unique 14th century wooden bridges and to shop for those army knives, watches, and other famous Swiss-made products. Return to Einsiedeln for dinner and overnight.
Day 6 – LICHTENSTEIN – INNSBRUCK – SALZBURG (B,D)
This morning we depart for Lichtenstein and its capital, Vaduz. We then journey along the Arlberg route through Alpine Austria to Innsbruck, Tyrol. An orientation drive through the city includes the Little Golden Roof and Maria Theresien Street for an impressive view of the Tyrolean Alps in the backdrop. Afterwards we continue to Salzburg, our final destination for today. Dinner and overnight.
Day 7 – SALZBURG(B)
We enjoy a morning sightseeing of Salzburg, hometown of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The afternoon is free for independent exploration.
Day 8 – OBERAMMERGAU (B,D)
We cross into Germany on our way to nearby Oberammergau to attend the world-famous for its passion plays, a thanksgiving by the villagers about Christ´s sufferings for having been spared of the plague which ravaged the town in 1633. Dinner and overnight.
Day 9 – CHURCH IN THE WIES – BAVARIAN CASTLES – MUNICH (B,D)
Our first stop today is at the Church in Wies, known for its magnificent rococo interior. We continue to the magnificent Bavarian Castle, the fantasy-like creation by `crazy´ King Ludwig ll . Here we join a guided tour of Neuschwanstein Castle, after which the Disneyland Castle was modeled. Next we are on to Munich via Marktl am Inn, hometown of Pope Benedict. Tonight we visit the festive Hofbrauhaus to lift a Stein of beer and to sample local fare while listening to bands playing Bavarian music.
Day 10 – ALTOETTING (B,D)
Our day excursion takes us to the Shrine of the Black Madonna of Altoetting where in 1489 a small child was restored to life after drowning in a pond. Thousands of pilgrims come here each year in search of healing. Pope Benedict often visited as a child with his father and Pope John Paul ll made a pilgrimage here in 1980. After mass at the small Chapel of Our Lady we return to Munich for dinner and overnight.
Day 11 – MUNICH – PRAGUE (B,D)
After breakfast we depart Munich through scenic Bavarian countryside to Prague, capital of the Czech Republic. Remainder of the day at leisure. Tonight we enjoy dinner at a traditional local restaurant.
Day 12 – PRAGUE (B,D)
Our morning tour starts at the `Little Quarter´ with a visit to the Church of Our Lady Victorious and home of the Infant of Prague. From 1000 –year-old Hradcany Castle we take in the breath-taking panorama of the Czech capital, considered by many to be Europe´s most beautiful. Next we explore St. Vitus Cathedral, illuminated by colored light from its huge stained glass windows. Its exquisitely ornate Chapel of St. Wenceslaus houses the tomb of the Good King who was tragically murdered by his brother. We then descend to the Old Town Square to view the magnificent Astronomical Clock. The remainder of the day is free for independent exploration. Dinner and overnight.
Day 13 – RETURN FLIGHT (B)
We say `Auf Wiedersehen´ as we transfer to the airport for our flight back home.
